A This n That Labor Day

We had a relaxing Labor Day long weekend with not too much going on. Here are some highlights!

Yeay!! College Football is back!! We enjoyed watching A LOT of football this weekend. Colton can recognize football on TV and say "fooball" and will raise his arms and say "toudown" if you ask him too! Jeff watched the UT game at his brother's house since we do not get the Longhorn Network. We stayed for just a bit and then Colton and I headed home for bath and bedtime. While we were there Colton LOVED playing the drums with Uncle Paul!
Do we have a drummer in our future??

This weekend Colton figured out a new sleeping position! Ha!!
We were going to go to the lake this weekend, but we cannot get the boat in the water. :( The water is soooo low. In the picture below, you can see the retaining wall and normally the water is all the way to the edge of that. But as you can see we are growing a second yard instead. :(So, Jeff, Colton and I went down Sunday to mow the yard (not the beach yard, the normal yard) and clean out the fridge. Colton found his own fun inside with a tissue box! This took him no time at all!We also enjoyed the amazing weather we had on Monday! To go from 100 plus to the 80s was awesome! Colton was soooo happy to play outside. He loves being outside and it just has been to hot this summer to be out. We are looking forward to fall!

17 months

Colton turned 17 months on Monday! He is learning so much and is such a joy to be around (he can have his moments though:) ) Here is what Colton has been up to this month.

• Still a great sleeper with nighttime sleep from 8:00/8:30 pm to about 8:00/8:30 am with one 2-2 ½ hour nap. Recently he has been sleeping in to 9 some mornings!
• He is doing a little better with new foods. Loves fruit but still not so much luck on veggies. We have gotten him to eat corn, but that is about it on the vegetable front. He has found a new love…ketchup…loves it and wants to dip everything in it!
• Colton still has 16 teeth, which we brush every night. After we read our bedtime stories he says “teeeeeh” to go brush them.
• He is wearing 12 – 18 month clothes and size 4 diapers.
• Colton now has a vocabulary of about 70 words that he says on his own. They are not all perfectly pronounced, but you can tell what he wants or is saying.
• He loves Sesame Street and can recognize and say Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie (Monster), Zoe, Ernie, and Grover
• Colton still loves his animals and can recognize and say quite a few now!
• Colton has learned how to successfully drink from a straw. He loves to have sips of Daddy's sweet tea!
• Some of his other favorite things right now are: pizza, dancing, throwing the ball to the dog, going for walks in the evening, pulling the baking utensils out of the child locked drawer in the kitchen :), books, stacking blocks, pushing anything around, veggie stick chips, throwing his football, testing his mommy and daddy, giving kisses, and just getting into everything!

Silly Boy!!Colton loves loves loves his books! Having fun at Gymboree!Eating yummy corn on the cob! He thought it was so fun to eat it off the cob! Colton started doing this when I take his picture. I will say "Cheese" and this is what he will do...hilarious!Drinking from a big boy cup with a straw!Colton and his new friend...a wombat from Australia! Wombat is one of his favorite animals that he says and recognizes. :)

16 Months

Better late than never…Colton turned 16 months on July 29th. It is amazing to me how much they absorb and learn at this age! Everyday he does or says something new! It is such a fun age and we are enjoying every minute of it!

Here are the stats from Colton’s 15 month check up.
Weight: 22lbs. (15th percentile)
Height: 32 1/4 in. (80th percentile)
Head Circumference: 40.2 cm. (80th percentile)
Doctor said he is doing great and developmentally between 18 and 24 months. We knew he was smart though! :)
• Sleeps great with night time sleep from 8:00/8:30 to about 8:00 am with one 2-2 ½ hour nap.
• Since we lowered the amount of milk we give him at meals, Colton has begun to eat better and try more new foods! Yay!! He is still not having the veggies though…but does great with most fruits. His favorite thing right now is Pirates Booty. It is a white cheddar rice puff snack. He will get the bag out of the pantry and ask for it.
• 4 more teeth for Colton! He now has 16 teeth!!
• He is wearing 12 – 18 month month clothes and size 4 diapers.
• Colton’s vocabulary is growing so fast! He is repeating and learning words all the time! It is amazing! One of his new favorite things is trying to ask where did someone/something go. He will put his little hands palms up and say “nononon go?”
• He can recognize and say: dogie, duck, zebra, bird, crab, tiger, wombat (this one was a surprise…it is on his baby noah movie and he pointed it out in one of his animal books and said wombat), turtle, polar bear, bee, baby, strawberry, banana, grape, cheese, bean, pickle, Elmo, ball, milk, book, balloon, hat, Big Bird, Ernie, and I am sure I am forgetting some.
• Colton can point to these body parts: eye (he likes to point this out on other people and say “eye”), head, hair, nose, belly button, mouth, knees and toes
• My sister gave Colton a few swimming lessons before we went on vacation and Colton loves to “swim” now! No surprise with his love for water!
• Between me and my mom we make a lot of trips to Target and Colton is with us most of the time. He has started saying “Tarrrrrrget”. It is so funny!
• Colton still really loves animals! He can tell you what a cow says “mmmmmm”, dogie says “rf rf rf”, duck says “qack qack”, sheep says “baaaaa”, pig says “ink ink”, elephant says “oooooo”with him using his arm as a trunk going up, and mammaw taught him what a bunny says…he scrunches his nose at you. Too cute! :)
• Some of his other favorite things right now are: Sesame Street, bouncing balls, dancing, helping mommy pick up his toys, books (this kid just loves them!!), pushing things, emptying drawers/bins/cabinets/anything!, hanging out with Daddy, doggies, bath time (he has moved into the big tub and really likes it), playing hide and seek (he is a really good hider!!) and running around! :)

One of Colton's favorite things to do...eat Pirates Booty for a snack and watch Sesame Street with Daddy! This is what Colton does when he says "nononon go" aka..."where did __ go?" :)
Check out Colton's dance moves!

Summer Vacation - Part Two

After Orange Beach with the fam, we headed to our little vacation in Okaloosa Island, Florida. This is just to the West of Destin and not near as crowded. Traveling with a 15 month old was different than how we vacationed in the past :), but we had a great time together and enjoyed watching Colton have so much fun! (sorry this is such a long post, but I wanted to get it all done and saved at once :) )

Day One
We stayed at a resort called Waterscape and it was awesome! It was so kid friendly with lots of pools and a big splash park for toddlers! We stayed in a little condo and it was perfect!

Checking out the beach in Florida...no rain, clear water and white sand! Amazing! This pool is so much fun! I love this place!
Dinner at Floyd's Shrimp House, amazing shrimp and smoked tuna dip with a great view of the beach! Yum!
Day Two
A wonderful morning at the beach! Colton just loved playing in the sand and in the water. He also loved to walk along the water. Needless to say we got our exercise! :) Floating the lazy river with Daddy...looks like these boys have it made!Having fun swimming in the pool! Sporting Mommy's shades :) Evening walk on the beach...so beautiful! Colton was being such a little ham before bed. He is just having so much fun on vacation! Silly Boy!! Day Three
Another fun morning on the beach! This is my favorite picture from the trip!Family fun on the beach! We went to an Air Force Museum that was near where we were staying and it was really neat! They had tons of air crafts. They had an F-16 mock cock pit for the kids or adults to sit in and explore. Of course Colton loved this because there was so many buttons! :) I just love the pic of him peeking out of the cock pit...such a little guy! :) I love how little Colton looks by these huge air crafts! :)Dinner at The Lucky Snapper....more yummy sea food with a fascinating view of Destin Harbor and all the fishing boats! Evening walk on the beach...love it!Day Four
More fun on the beach!
Floating the lazy river with Mommy We showed Colton how to rinse off his feet when we came off the beach. He thought the rinse stations were so much fun that he had to use one every time he saw it...even if he was not sandy. This picture cracks me up! :) Playing in the splash area. Colton loved these little water fountains, the animals that sprayed water and going down the slide...with a little assistance :) This are was so great for toddlers! The resort had a covered play area that Colton loved. He had such a good time going down the little slide and playing in the boat. We went to dinner at the Crab Trap. We had an amazing crab dip that Colton loved too! After dinner we walked out on a fishing pier. It was really neat and Colton enjoyed walking it and seeing the big birds that hung out on the pier. Day Five: Departure Day :(
Colton did this all on his own...did this mean he is ready to go home :)
Bye Bye beach and fun resort! After we checked out, we went back to the fishing pier to see it in daylight. It was beautiful...the water was so clear we saw lots of fish and even a few sharks! Stopped at the famous Fuddpuckers for lunch before we headed out.We divided the drive into 2 days on the way back as well, stopping in Vicksburg Mississippi. Before we headed home we went to see one of the best Civil War Battle Fields...what a perfect place for a 15 month old to get out some energy before a car ride! Ha
